Rock a Baby
Ages : 0 month and up

Baby will love your voice no matter how it sounds, so don't eliminate singing based on your own self-critical view of your voice. Sing lullabies to baby that will soothe both of you. If you don't know any, buy a lullaby tape and memorize few. Rock together, holding baby close as you sing softly. Here is one to try:

Sleep, Baby, Sleep
Sleep, baby, sleep, thy father guards the sheep.
Thy mother shakes the dreamland tree, and from it fall sweet dreams for thee.
Sleep, baby, sleep.

Smile, baby, smile, thy mother guards awhile.
Thy father tends the dreamland tree, and shakes a new sweet dream for thee.
Smile, baby, smile.

Gurgles and Coos
Ages : 6 months and up
A peace hug is when you hold baby long enough so that you relax completely, letting all your tensions dissolve as you breathe. When you are very tense it may take five minutes to relax, so hold on until you feel peace wash over you. This hug works wonders if you have just lost your temper over something your child has done. Better yet, instead of losing your temper in the first place, try a peace hug.
