Baby Feeding » Tips for weaning
Wean slowly and gradually.
Do not season or sweeten food.
Do not offer nuts to children less than 4 years of age.
Cook meat and fish thoroughly and avoid reheating.
Do not feed your baby direct from the jar unless he finishes the whole jar at a sitting.
Pay scrupulous attention to hygiene, sterilising any containers or utensils until he is 6 months old.
Be guided on quantity of food by your baby's appetite. His weight gain will start to slow down after the age of six months.
Always make sure he is securely strapped in his high chair.
Bear with any food fads or refusals cheerfully and calmly.
Make foods look attractive and colourful.
Let your baby join in family meals as soon as possible.
Ideas for home prepared first foods:
Steamed and squashed carrots.
Boiled potato and water, squashed.
Dried fruit like apricots and prunes, boiled in a little water until soft then squashed.
Peas or spinach, squashed.
Tomato and apple squash - remove the seeds from the tomato first.
Mango or papaya mixed with a little rice.
Sweet potato squash.
