Choosing Toys For Your Child
Baby Toys »Choosing Toys
Your choice of toys in his first 3 years should reflect his changing needs:
Simple toys last longer and are better for imaginative play.
Toys do not need to be expensive. Children often get the most fun from the toys that cost nothing and are objects that can be found around the house.
Recycle packaging to use as a toy - large boxes, which are used for household appliances, make great playhouses or painting backgrounds.
Babies need toys that stimulate their five senses. Choose toys that introduce different colours, textures, shapes and sounds.
Older babies prefer building, particularly 'put-in, take-out' toys; bricks of different sizes are ideal. As your child grows, he'll be able to manage interlocking blocks and more advanced shape-sorters.
Preschool children enjoy drawing, painting, imaginative play, and simple games that improve concentration. Keep an eye out for garage sales as they are a great source for second-hand toys. Always check there are no missing or broken parts and no peeling paint.
