Preventing Common Injuries
Baby Safety » Living, play area and stairs.
Remove furniture with sharp corners or edges. Low coffee tables are quite hazardous for toddlers, as they often bump into them or climb up and fall off. Remove unstable furniture and tuck chairs into dining tables as your child may try to climb on it and fall.
Install guards or gates at the top and bottom of stairs.
Remove all poisonous house-plants from the house and keep all potted plants out of your child's reach as he may attempt to eat parts of the plant or the soil.
Arrange book and toy shelves so the heaviest items are on the bottom for stability. Check toys for broken parts or other hazards. If you use a toy box, en-sure the lid can't slam shut. Keep small pieces of toys belonging to the older siblings out of reach so that your toddler will not swallow or choke on them.
Do not allow your child to play with food in his mouth as the baby may choke.
Sharp objects like knives, scissors, screwdrivers and ice-picks must be kept away from children.
