FAQ » Faq about Baby Head
1. Is it true that putting baby to sleep in a sarong or hammock will give her a nice round head when she grows up?
Sleeping in a sarong or hammock is discouraged for safety reasons, but changing baby's sleeping positions will help ensure her head is well-proportioned, so let baby sleep on her side and on her back and remember to rotate her from time to time.
2. I've been told that putting baby to sleep on a pillow filled with semi precious or crystals will enhance baby's intelligence when she grows older. Is there any basis to that claim?
To date, there is no conclusive evidence that sleeping on semi-precious stones or crystals will enhance baby's intelligence.
3. Is it safe to touch or comb baby's head? Will touching or combing baby's hair cut the fontanelles?
It is perfectly safe to touch baby's head, wash and brush her hair, but do remember to be gentle with her. Brushing her hair daily will stimulate the blood circulation and encourage hair growth.
4. Is it true that "wind" can enter baby's body via the fontanelles? Will applying medicated oil or cream to the fontanelles prevent this from happening?
Again, don't worry. Baby's fontanelles are resistant to "wind" entering, so creams and medicated oils are not necessary.
5. Is it true that rubbing hard boiled eggs and applying warm compresses will reduce the swelling (ceohalhaematoma) on baby's head?
It's best not to tamper with or apply any objects to baby's head. Leave it alone and it will resolve itself soon enough.
6. Does shaving baby’s head one month after birth encourage "abundant hair growth in the future"?

Baby’s head is shaved for various reasons. These may be either for religious, medical or superstitious reasons. You can shave baby’s head if you like but it will not encourage her hair to grow any faster or thicker.

7. Will rubbing brandy on my baby’s head stimulate her hair to grow faster and thicker?

Far from stimulating hair growth in baby, rubbing brandy is potentially harmful as the alcohol may be absorbed into baby’s blood circulation. It is best to allow her hair to grow naturally at its own pace. Hair growth is influenced by a person’s genetic make up as well as nutrition.
